Hostel

The „Chalet des Alpes“ was built in 1912. For a long time it was used as part of a hotel in the neighbourhood.

In 2005 the present owners Patrik and Michael Gentsch bought the dilapidated old house and startet the renovation.
It took more than a year to renovate, and was mostly done by Patrik and Michael themselves.

In July 2006 Gotthardbackpacker opened and ever since especially backpackers, cyclists, bikers and families enjoy the uncomplicated and warm atmosphere.

We offer our guests one 4-bed room, one 6-bed room plus one spacious double room. All beds have normal size of 90/200cm which are separable to the next person with enough space for everyone.

Additionally there are a clean and tidy kitchen where you can prepare your own food, a dining- and living room and a terrace with garden at your disposal. A highlight for many of our guests is certainly the way down to the king size shower and bathroom in the basement, made of black granite stone!

Location

Wassen is located in the canton Uri at the junction of the Gotthard and the Susten pass between Erstfeld and Andermatt. 930 m over sea level.

The house is situated at the south end of the village opposite the post office, about 200 m from the village square.
