The hirschen backpackers.hotel.pub was founded in the year 2000. Since then this hostel has been home to many backpackers, hikers, pilgrims, bikers and other visitors of the historic town in the heart of Switzerland, which is also home of Victorinox, the world famous factory of pocket tools. All over the year there are taking place a lot of traditional events, which might lengthen your stay.



How to get to Schwyz

By train:
- 1 hour from Zürich with changing trains in Zug/Arth-Goldau
- 45 min from Luzern with changing trains in Zug/Arth-Goldau
- 30 min from Zug with changing trains in Arth-Goldau

NOTE: The train stop is in Seewen (a suburb of Schwyz). There is a bus from Seewen to Schwyz which leaves every 30 min. The bus is included if you buy a ticket to Schwyz Post.

By air:
It takes 1,5 hours to get to Schwyz from Zürich International Airport.

By car:
From Zürich: Direction Sihltal – Sihlbrugg afterwards Autobahn N4A bypass Rütihof direction Küssnacht - Schwyz (N4)/ exit Schwyz

From Chur: Motorway A3 until exit Schindellegi/Einsiedeln (#38). Further direction Schindellegi, Biberbrugg, Rothenthurm, Sattel, Schwyz

From Luzern: Motorway A2 until bypass Rütihof direction Küssnacht - Schwyz (N4)/ exit Schwyz


What to do in Schwyz

- go and visit Victorinox - the real authentic Swiss Army knive manufacturers. They have a beautiful large outlet store, where you can not only find any single tool, knive or watch of their uncountable selection but they also have great offers and special dicsounts. - Schwyz townscape - the fabulous village square surrounded by the dominating parish church, town hall and manor houses is regarded as one of the most beautiful squares in Switzerland.

- The Museum of the Swiss Charters - the founding document of the three first member cantons and other documents are exhibited here.

- Demonstration Cheese Dairy Schwyzerland in Seewen – watching, tasting, enjoying and buying for groups and individual visitors.

- Kirschstrasse – features everything from cherry blossom to distilled kirsch produced in the demonstration distillers along ‘Kirsch Street’

- Hölloch karst cave system in the Muota Valley – measuring about 190 km, this is the longest cave in Europe and the fifth-biggest cave system in the world. The caves can only be visited as part of a guided cave expedition.
